MARKET: Pink Petal Books

Pink Petal Books
Various deadlines

At Pink Petal Books we believe that love is a beautiful thing, and what’s more romantic than receiving flowers? Of course, giving flowers doesn’t have to be romantic, but isn’t it more fun when it is? Pink Petal Books seeks well-written romance stories starting with one character receiving flowers. The flowers can be received for any reason, and they don’t necessarily need to be received from the other major character(s) in the story.

Each themed anthology will contain three to four 15,000-25,000 word novellas released first as individual ebooks, then published together into one print volume. Heat levels in each story need to start at sensual and work up to erotic. On the Pink Petal Books scale these will be rose or cosmos stories, with partially or fully explored love scenes. Language may range from the occasional frank or graphic language to no holds barred.

Our first anthology will be Pink Petal Books Presents: Shifters. All stories need to contain a shifter as either the hero or heroine. Different shifters preferred. Think about animals you haven’t seen in books, or seen very rarely, and use your imagination. You can submit a wolf, but preference will be given to the different animals, so the wolf story should be exceptional and new. Deadline for stories will be July 15 with decisions made by August 1. Electronic publication will happen during our official launch month of October, with print publication to follow in February 2009.

As long as your story starts with a character receiving flowers and fits the theme and sensuality level, there are no other restrictions on genre.

Payment will be 35% royalty on sales price for ebooks (except stories sold through third party vendors, which will be 45% of net (sales price - vendor cut = net). Print books will be our standard 10% royalty split between the three or four authors in the volume.

How to submit: Please email your complete manuscript attached in RTF/Word format to meditor@pinkpetalbooks.com. Include in the body of the email a word count and brief blurb (one or two paragraphs). For more information about us, please read our complete submission guidelines.

Upcoming anthologies are:

Pink Petal Books Presents: Dragons
Submission Deadline: November 15, decisions by Dec 1
Electronic Publication: March 2009, print July 2009

Pink Petal Books Presents: Nature (think Shamans and Druids)
Submission Deadline: April 15, decisions by May 1
Electronic Publication: August 2009, print December 2009

(Director's note:  I'm assuming that they mean July 15 2008, November 15 2008 and April 15 2009 but I'm getting confirmation. I don't know this publisher at all, so normal caveats apply)

    MARKETS: Lace & Blade
    Lace and Blade
    August 1, 2008

Lace and Blade  is accepting submissions for its second anthology of "elegant, sensual, romantic fantasy, emphasizing sharp verbal repartee as much as sharp pointed weapons, rapier rather than broadsword."

Editor Deborah J. Ross is interested in "characters - both men and women - with vibrant personalities, complex, dashing, and very sexy. I'm particularly interested in stories that have magic and action, but in which conflict is resolved not by violence but by insight, creativity, and compassion. I'd love to see "win-win" endings, sense-of-wonder, plot twists and turnabout.

Alternate sexuality is welcome; eroticism a definite plus; exotic, non-Western European settings also encouraged. Please read the first volume to see what I'm looking for." The deadline for submissions is August 1, 2008. There are no minimum or maximum lengths, though Ross says longer stories must be "extraordinary." Ross will pay a 2 cents a word advance against royalties. The book will be released Valentine's Day, 2009.

    News: Interview on Lust Bites
Teresa Noelle Roberts [info]safirasilv is posting an interview with Rakelle Valencia and me today on the syndicated blog [info]lust_bites. The subject, of course, is Lipstick on Her Collar, which I’ve talked so often about already that your eyes may be glazing over even as you read (or cease reading).

We’ll be checking the site frequently during the day, and responding to comments and questions, so I hope some of you will fling ‘em at me. (Also, I’m told that there’ll be a cute picture of my co-editor, Rakelle Valencia, with one of her even cuter newborn foals. Pay no attention to any pictorial imposters.)

There’s a tradition on Lust Bites of awarding a book prize to some lucky (or hapless) commenter whose name is chosen at random. I don’t know how to arrange this officially, but I will, in fact, donate a copy of Lipstick (or your choice of one of my other anthologies) to one reader who chimes in tomorrow.

For those without time or inclination to check out the interview, I want to clarify something here about the book. It’s true that the title suggests an emphasis on glamorous femmes, and we do have a fine assortment of those. But there are also many stories that focus as much on the butch hearts beating below the collars as on the lips that made their marks there. There’s something for a wide variety of tastes, no matter who you lust after, or who you want to feel like while you’re lusting.

    Deadline: July 31, 2008

For the erotic lesbian anthology GIRL CRAZY (Cleis Press, Summer 2009), I'm looking for sexual/erotic coming-out short stories (max 5,000 words) about "first times" -- fiction (or memories from youth) recounting experiences of self-discovery, the first thrill of girl/girl erotic play, the first explorations of the wilder shores of sex; the first time experiencing everything from falling into bed to falling in love with another woman. Deadline: July 31, 2008. Submissions and requests for extended guidelines to Sacchi Green <sacchigreen@gmail.com>; please put "Girl Crazy" in the subject line. Original stories only.

    Call for Submissions and Reviews
Thaneros, set to debut March 31st, needs additional reviews.

Reviews should be no longer than 250 words, and should focus on current (or if not current, readily available) books, magazines, movies, comics, manga, and games of a dark/horror or erotic nature. If the material is both dark and erotic, all the better.

Although Thaneros is a paying fiction market, we cannot compensate for reviews at this time. However, we will provide a full byline, allow for bio space, et cetera. Hosting banner ads can be arranged upon request.

Of course, we are always on the look out for erotica set in both mainstream and speculative genres, all of it with a dark twist. How you define dark is up to you. That said, Thaneros does not want:

    - Rape or abuse, or sex without a plot.
    - Gore or violence for their own sake.
    - Gratuitous character death; we want 'little deaths' not snuff.
    - Racist or homophobic fiction.
    - Sex with minors.
    - Bestiality, though werewolf sex is acceptable.
    - Scat.
    - Clichés.
    - Poetry.

Please visit our submission guidelines on site for more information, or drop us a line.

    Thanks!

Cruising - True Gay Stories of Public Erotica
    Deadline 30 June 2008

Who can forget that rush of adrenaline when you walk in the backroom of a bar, or men steaming it up in gym showers, feet tapping in the stalls of college bathrooms and raunchy trysts in big city bathhouses, or small town sex arcades.    I'm  looking for TRUE stories of public sex for my new anthology. I am looking for tales that not only have an erotic element, but to also address the issues of sexual politics in the public arena. The stories must have great character development, and go beyond the trite male on male sex ritual. Two or more characters are appreciated.    </div>

Service With A Smile: Fun with Couriers, Contractors and Plumbers
    edited by Eric Summers

    Deadline: August 15, 2008

It is the oldest fantasy in the book. The delivery guy shows up wearing his tight brown uniform, and you answer the door, fresh from the shower. One thing leads to another and … Or, a contractor comes over to plaster a wall on a hot day. He strips off his shirt, you offer him a cool drink, and … Have you every waited for an appliance delivery hoping for a big strapping man to come knocking at your door? When the cable guy finally arrived two hours late, was it worth the wait? Did a plumber ever offer to fix your pipes?

    NEWS: Hero

My first story under my new penname, Jessica Freely, is up at the Torquere Press site.  I am very pleased and excited about HERO, the first in what will hopefully be a long and entertaining series.

In HERO, David lives through books.  His real life is boring and nothing ever happens to him, that is until he's attacked on the way home from work.  Aid comes to him from the most unlikely of sources; a young homeless man named Seth.  In return David gets a chance to become in real life what he's only read about before; a hero.

    Here's a short excerpt:

Slowly Seth came forward and took the eggs. He set them down on the counter and, giving David every opportunity to back away, he lifted one hand to David's cheek. David couldn't move. He was mesmerized by Seth's eyes, looking at him so tenderly. His thumb caressed David's cheek and David felt a twinge of pain. He gasped. The cut. They'd cut him. How had he managed to forget that? How was it he only felt it now, that Seth was touching him? He drew in a deep breath. He hadn't even looked in the mirror. "How bad is it?" he asked.

Desdmona’s Sex in the Rain Contest
    Deadline: March 31, 2008

You know what they say about April Showers?

Well, we don’t want any of that crap.

It’s time for Desdmona.com’s latest sex story contest, and this one will take place in the rain. It could be one of those warm afternoon drizzles as the sun dips behind a cloud, or it could be an I-can-barely-breathe-through-the-gushing torrents type. But whatever it is, there has to be some of that wet stuff falling out of the sky. And no matter if the story is dark and hard, pelting, painful, wet, and cold or gentle and warm, cleansing, sprinkling, and fresh, it must have hot sizzling sex in it.Read more... )

    MARKET: Circle Dark Publishing
Circle Dark Publishing is open for submissions for all lengths and genres. We aren't erotic-only, but we do accept erotic work, and we do want work that pushes boundaries. Unlike a few publishers who say that, we really mean it.

There are very few taboos with us at CDP. Those include: bestiality, explicit sexual situations involving minors, and rape scenes for the purpose of arousal and pleasure. Beyond these, we are looking for those things other e-book publishers won't touch. Some themes we will consider: sex without love, non-romantic erotic works, rape without the intent to arouse, and whatever else authors can dream up, including heroes of questionable morality.

In short, we look to publish the things we know people write and store in the bottoms of their hard-drives. The things writers can only get noticed if they write them as fanfiction; we want to allow these writers a chance to publish their original work and get noticed.

To see what I'm talking about, one could always take a look a what we already offer. ;o)

Interested authors can find our submissions guidelines here.

    Thank you all!
